I know that trance music was birthed from the goth/industrial sound. But this sounds like a distant cousin; not a baby of this genre...This is suppose to have 'goth' influences but sounds like your average trance album. It doesn't have the dark pulsing beats or crashing drums like industrial or even tribal house and no guitar work whatsoever(found in EBM/industrial or even hardcore techno). I think a lot of tribal house music is darker than this album. Overall, the album has a very drab 'let me mix this and get it over with' feeling and not much variance and emotion normally found in RIB's other stuff.
The trance is dark though; and has dark melodies but they are very sparse and 'weak'(note: no matter how dark you make it; trance is still trance). The songs do blend well. Vocals are sparse and fuzzy (slightly reminiscent of the kind you find in EBM)...which is way darker than this trancy stuff. If had to listen to trance I'd pick this album. But if you want some really good melancholic sounding trance try the Delerium Silence single..
